Convert betting odds and see the probability behind the price
One entry gives you all three formats, the chance the price implies and your return on a CAD stake.
Implied probability equals 100 divided by the decimal odds, so 4.00 implies 25 per cent. This converter changes decimal, fractional and American odds into each other and calculates the return on a stake in Canadian dollars, which makes prices from different sportsbooks easy to compare.
A bet at -150 on one app and 1.67 on another is the same price. The notation hides it. We re-check every month, so keep the top Canadian casino sites handy.
Type any format, set a stake and the tool does the translation. Sports betting is only a side topic on this site, but the maths is the same one casinos use.

Reading each format
Decimal shows total return per dollar, stake included: 2.50 pays CAD 2.50 for CAD 1. Fractional shows profit against stake: 3/2 is CAD 3 profit on CAD 2. American uses a sign. A plus is the profit on CAD 100, a minus is what you must stake to profit CAD 100.
| Decimal | Fractional | American | Chance implied |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.25 | 1/4 | -400 | 80.0% |
| 1.67 | 2/3 | -150 | 59.9% |
| 3.00 | 2/1 | +200 | 33.3% |
| 6.00 | 5/1 | +500 | 16.7% |
Why do implied chances add up to more than 100?
Because the book builds in a margin, also called vig or overround. Add the implied probabilities of every outcome and the surplus above 100 per cent is the book's built-in cut. A smaller surplus means a fairer price.
Three ways to put it to work
- Line up the same bet at two sites in one format.
- Know your return before you click confirm.
- Estimate the margin on a two-way market.
Implied probability describes a price, not the real likelihood of an outcome. Unfamiliar terms are defined in the glossary.
A note on legality
Single-event sports wagering became legal in Canada in 2021. Ontario has a regulated market overseen through iGaming Ontario, and other provinces run their own platforms. Because this site is about casinos, check your provincial regulator for sports rules. Background is in the regulation guide.
Common questions
Which format should I stick with?
Whichever you read fastest, because all three describe the same price. Decimal is easiest for multiplying a stake. American is common across North America and fractions survive in horse racing. Convert when you shop between sites so you compare like with like.
Is implied probability the true chance?
No. It is what the price suggests once the book's margin is included, so it normally overstates the real chance a little. Use it to compare prices and to see how much the book charges, never as a forecast. Odds do not guarantee any outcome.
Why do prices differ between sportsbooks?
Each book uses its own models, margin and betting flow. Small gaps are routine. If you bet on sports, shopping for the best price lifts value over a long run, although the margin still favours the house on average. Always check the total after any promotions are removed.
